WELCOME TO URBAN FITNESS AND HEALTH

Urban Fitness and Health was started by fitness and health experts to provide the Skagit Valley with a complete experience of wellness. We brought together a wide variety of exercise concepts including free weights, exercise machines, cardio equipment, group exercise classes, senior fitness programs and a high intensity workout facility. We have also added health services including physical therapy, nutrition counseling, massage therapy and a healthy coffee and juice bar. We offer educational seminars on health-related topics. To ensure a family environment we also offer babysitting services in safe and fun environment.

Hey there! I can’t wait to meet you! I was born and raised in Skagit Valley, graduated from Burlington-Edison High School (Go Tigers!) and pursued education at Skagit Valley College. I love everything about the Valley we live in and believe that we have a very special community here that I am blessed to be a part of. My passion is to give back to the community and enrich as many lives as possible, beginning with health and fitness. When I’m not around the gym reaching for my goals, and helping others with theirs, you’ll find me somewhere in nature enjoying the beautiful outdoors, or competing in some sort of sport or board game.

Having grown up in the beautiful Skagit Valley, I have deep connection with this place and the people in it. My name is Cam, short for Carmela, born and raised in the Philippines where I began my career as a central supply surgical tech and went on to work as a medical assistant at Yakima Regional Hospital in Eastern Washington. I have always been an active person who appreciates life and every little thing it offers. I consider myself to be a person who always sees the glass half full. I fell in love with strength training about two years before moving here and I still continue to love it more and more to this day. As a wife and mother of two children and two fur babies, I know what it takes to balance life and fitness.

My name is Abby, I have worked at Urban Fitness since 2009. I believe that fitness should be fun and personalized for each person’s abilities and goals. I coached the women’s lean body mass winner in the most recent fitness challenge. I can help all body types enjoy fitness and make progressive strength and functionality gains.

I have 12 years of swim coaching experience in several different gyms. I’m currently taking Brazilian jiu jitsu as self defense, and just for a fun way to do cardio! I’ve spent 7 years as a server watching peoples bad health habits and I’m excited to help people become healthier and get the most out of life!

Hi My name is Katie Larsen. I am a wife, mother of 2 and have been a Personal Trainer at Urban since 2009.
I grew up in Stanwood, WA and reside in Sedro-Woolley. I graduated from Lake Washington Technical College in 2008 with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences-Personal Training. I have been an Athlete my whole life and have held 4 American USAPL Powerlifting Records at the age of 23. And have placed 2nd at WABDL World’s in Las Vegas.
As a Mom and having gained 60-70 pounds with both my pregnancies I know what it takes to get back into the best shape of your life. As a Personal Trainer, my purpose is to help others reach their goals. Any individual looking to get to their goal I am your girl! I have been through it ALL!
My specialties are body fat reduction, body sculpting, muscle gain, sports conditioning and meal prep. I am the Instructor for my 12 Week Train Like a Competitor Program which is offered 3 times a year. We are celebrating 7 YEARS! I also teach Shred on Wednesday nights. I look forward to helping new and old members every day to reach their goals. Being a Personal Trainer is one of the most rewarding occupations today!

Hello! My name is Jathan Greathouse and I have the great pleasure of being a new personal trainer here! I have been a self-taught, self-motivated member with Urban Fitness for 10 years and have made my training, diet, and recovery a priority for the past two years. I have also lived a plant-based lifestyle since 2009 and am enthusiastic about the many advantages it brings. I’m inspired by fundamental classic free weight training, but I like to mix it up in my training, keeping my progress steady and goal-specific. I have dropped 50 pounds of bodyfat in nine months while simultaneously gaining strength and muscle size. I believe in optimizing a clear plan of action and seeing it through with relentless effort and purpose!

My passion for overall health and fitness began about 13 years ago.  At that time I had 4 kids under 7 years old. I was overweight, out of shape, tired all the time, and lost in terms of who I was and where I was going.  

One morning I decided to stop making excuses.  I got my butt off the couch and started working out.

From that day on I was on a mission to not only become healthier, but to create a lifestyle of healthy living and adventure.  What started as a running hobby turned into an obsession of learning about fitness and nutrition. I began spending the small amount of time that I had working with a personal trainer, prepping my food, running, and exploring the outdoors.  

After several months, of hard work I had lost the weight, was conquering fitness goals and began feeling great about who I was and where I was going.  I had more energy than I knew what to do with and wanted to share everything I learned with everyone who was stuck in the same rut I was in.

As a former fitness studio owner and personal trainer, I have spent the past 10 years helping people make the changes necessary to live the life of their dreams.  

Although I have the experience and the knowledge to help others I believe all the hard work is done by the amazing people I have met along the way and will meet in the future. Every drop of sweat, every squat, every press, every healthy meal prepared is completed by them.  It’s a tough but an amazing journey for those who are up for the challenge.

My name is Elena Rivera-Galaz. I was born in the north of Spain in a city called Vitoria. I moved to Pamplona  when I was 18 to pursue my dream of becoming an actress. My love for fitness started about twenty years ago when I was 23 I moved to Madrid and became a spinning instructor. At the age of 33 I met the love of my life through my church and I moved to the U.S.A, and married him 7 years ago now. Once I got here I became a certified RPM instructor. In 2017 I injured my hip, and that was the beginning of my journey to became a personal trainer. I had to quit spinning and RPM. I went through a long process of Physical therapy, chiropractor, orthopedic, hip specialist etc… After a few months I decided to study and learn how to help my body to heal. Furthermore, I wanted to help others to heal and get healthier through fitness. My love for fitness has grown so deep in the last few years that I can’t stop reading, searching, and learning more and more on how to help others to achieve their goals. 

So here I am, now a NASM-certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor and always an actress at heart ♥️.

Hi! My name is Ceci, I fell in love with fitness eight years ago. I wanted to share the same passion with others who have the same aspirations in becoming a better stronger and healthier version of themselves. I’m a wife and a mother to an amazing 9-year-old little guy! I’m a full time Corrections Officer as well. Balancing family and work may be tough sometimes, but I believe that finding time for yourself and your health is very important, and a great example for family.

My name is Daniel McHugh. I am a memberships consultant here at Urban Fitness. I am a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, long-distance backpacker, and former powerlifter. I have backpacked throughout the United States, most of Canada, and parts of Europe. I am attending college for a degree in wildlife management and love being a part of people’s lives and the community!!

Hi! I’m Ana and I was born and raised in Washington state. I love the PNW so much and I am glad to call Mount Vernon my home. I’ve been married four wonderful years to my husband Paul, and we have a sweet and crazy dog named Chewbacca. I love playing and watching all kinds of sports in my free time and I love all things health and fitness, especially since it makes me feel so good about myself. Being active is just a natural part of my life whether it’s being a BODYFLOW instructor, working out in the gym, or being in this beautiful area outdoors with our dogs.

Hi there! My name is Julieanna Hansen, I am joyously married to Kevin Hansen and we have 3 kids: Elsie, Dane and Clara. My life is filled with family, our 15 acre home and all fun things that happen there. I’m a bit of a homebody…

I have always dabbled in fitness, I would go on little runs as a kid, played school sports, ran cross country for Skagit Valley College (slowest one on the team, but I still did it!), I trained for 5 months and ran a full marathon, BUT it wasn’t until I found Zumba that I became consistent in my fitness journey. Soon after Finding Zumba I got certified in 2012, and started teaching. I truly believe when you find what you love then depression, low self-esteem and other burdens can be lifted! I found my therapy! I joined the family at Urban fitness in the summer of 2018, I’ve found my HOME!!!! I love the fun, nonjudgmental mentality of this gym, we are all friends, we CHOOSE to work hard for the members and ourselves! Go team!

Hannah has always had a love for being active whether it is moving to the beat, pushing her peddles or dancing in the rain. She has been teaching fitness for the last 17 years and is very successful at helping others reach their fitness goals. Hannah loves sharing her knowledge and experience in teaching Step, Kickboxing, Weights, Circuit, Cycle, Pilates, Yoga/Pilates Fusion, Golden Hearts, Urban Rebounding and Bosu. Her most recent
certificates include NASM Primary Group Exercise (AFAA), Kickboxing, Golden Hearts, Pilates, Yoga/Pilates Ball Fusion, Circuit, and Cycle. When Hannah is not teaching at the gym, she enjoys spending time with her husband and four children, coaching peewee sports, volunteering with various organizations, teaching school and hiking. She is also her children’s biggest fan either on the sidelines or in the stands.
